Throughout the day, next to the site's forge, come and watch iron being produced from iron ore found at Guédelon.

CHARCOAL BURNING

Making charcoal

The process of making charcoal is essentially the carbonization of wood through the removal of moisture.

The wood to be charcoaled is stacked in mounds and covered with earth; the burn lasts several days.

Discover this ancient tradition from the 2nd to the 13th July 2012

MURAL PAINTINGS

Mural paintings at Guédelon

Application of mural paintings

For the first time at Guédelon, one of the castle chambers will be painted.

In partnership with Juliette Rollier, specialist in mural paintings and Doctor in History of Art, the walls of the great hall's antechamber will be decorated with mural paintings produced using ocres sourced locally in Puisaye.

From the 1st - 15th August 2012
