Open to anyone 18 years of age or older, the construction intern learns about and gains hands-on experience with specific construction or production techniques drawn from Guédelon’s expertise. To participate in the project, all you need is a willingness to help, a desire to learn, good physical condition, and an interest in the adventure we’re embarking on. Check-in for “Bâtisseurs” stays takes place on Mondays from April through August and on Thursdays for the rest of the season (the site is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in September and October).

• Traditional masonry: preparing mortar mixes, building walls, laying and adjusting stones, arranging and lifting materials in the hoist, collecting stones, etc.

• Stoneworking professions: extraction, stone cutting, introduction to stone transport techniques;
• Earthenware trades: production of clay roof tiles or paving tiles: preparing the clay, molding the tiles…
• Woodworking professions: production of shingles
  

Practical Information

The construction site opens at 9:30 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. and closes at 5:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m., or 6:30 p.m., depending on the time of year.

On the day of your arrival, please report to the construction site reception desk at 9:00 a.m. sharp.

Guédelon is a company, not an association.
When you participate, your status is that of a “construction intern.” A daily accommodation fee of €10 will be charged, and the accommodation fees must be paid before your arrival.

You must have appropriate personal insurance (liability insurance + mandatory health insurance), have a means of transportation while you are there, and arrange your own accommodations. Guédelon is a permanent, vibrant, and ever-evolving experimental archaeology site where permanent staff, tourists, school groups, interns, journalists, researchers, and academics all work side by side… To ensure a positive atmosphere on the site, it is necessary—just as it is for Guédelon’s workers—to follow a few rules of community life, which you agree to when you register through the Guédelon Code of Conduct (respect, patience, a smile, etc.). You will also be required to wear and provide your own work attire: long pants in a neutral color and safety shoes (you will receive more details about the dress code at a later date).

Lunches
You must bring your own lunches, which are eaten in the canteen with the site team (refrigerators, microwaves and coffee machines are available).

Accommodation
There is no accommodation or camping available on the Guédelon site. The region offers a wide range of lodging options, which you can find by visiting: puisaye-tourisme.fr

RV parking is not permitted at the Guédelon parking lot outside of opening hours.
Wild camping is prohibited in the region.
Participants in the construction work may not bring their dogs, even if kept on a leash, to the construction site during their immersion.

First, you must fill out the application form and return it to us by email at participer@guedelon.fr

We will then contact you by email within a few days of receiving your request.
Guédelon reserves the right to accept applications based on the site’s needs.
