the inspiration behind Guédelon
It was following the results of an archaeological study of this castle that the idea of building a castle from scratch was born.
10 minutes from the construction site, come and visit a castle with 10 centuries of history.
The imposing C15th red-brick fortress gives no hint of the elegant interior courtyard redesigned by Le Vau in the C17th. Visit the castle’s astonishing roof timbers after a tour of the furnished apartments.
Candlelit visits: visit Saint-Fargeau castle by night, brought to life by over a dozen characters in costume. Actors, acrobats, horse show…
Spend a night in the castle: in a C18th part of the castle is a suite which has retained its original features. Comfortable canopy bed (140 x 190), embroidered linen, roll-top bath in tiled bathroom…
Saint-Fargeau historical show
A breathtaking vision of a 1000 years of history will unfold before you. Over 600 actors present one of the greatest shows in Europe.
The castle’s ghosts come alive, the epic tale of Joan of Arc, hunting scenes, knights jousting, the destruction of the Hundred Years’ War, the arrival of American troops in Puisaye all spring from the pages of Saint-Fargeau Castle’s spectacular living history book. Set in the castle’s landscaped gardens, for over an hour and a half, a breathtaking vision of a 1000 years of history will unfold before you.
